Infected areas are thoroughly cleaned. The treated area is covered with a blue dye solution. Because the therapy involves intensive staining of bacteria, after treatment, a bluish-colored surface discoloration remains in the infected areas and sometimes in the visible part of the oral cavity, which, however, is self-absorbed after two to four hours. There are no known side effects or allergenic effects of ink absorption. A gentle laser light activates the solution. The use of the light-dye solution and the laser light assembly generates highly reactive oxygen, leading to the extermination of bacteria and fungi.
